JOB SUMMARY: The Clinical Services Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting the care team in providing quality primary health care and ensuring timely response to patients and community partners under the direction of a licensed clinician.

 

KNOWLEDGE OF WORK

Knowledge of programs available to patients (including, but not limited to, Medi-Cal, CHDP, CPSP, Presumptive Eligibility, Family Pact, Every Woman Counts, Sliding Scale)
Knowledge of patient demographic information and identifiers, and has constant awareness of insurance information to best assist patients
Knowledge of guidelines for proper cleaning and sterilization of instruments
Ability to prioritize and multi-task and have strong time management skills
Knowledge of Federally Qualified Health Centers and the key health center principles and guidelines
Ability to work with a diverse population

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Primary contact for answering backline calls and voicemails throughout the day and appropriately responding to community partners, including but not limited to hospitals, pharmacies, home health agencies, and specialty offices
Serves as a back-up support for medical assistant team, which includes all functions of a medical assistant, as directed by supervisor
Point of contact to coordinate in person and phone triage with a licensed clinician (Registered Nurse, Pharmacist, Physician Assistant, Nurse Practitioner, Certified Nurse Midwife, or Physician) to ensure timely assessment of patient
Collects vitals and run in-house labs via standing order to facilitate timely assessment of patients by a licensed clinician
Assists with re-routing of non-controlled prescriptions to patient’s pharmacy of choice and/or to re-send failed or unsent prescriptions to pharmacy, which are clearly documented in the EHR by the licensed clinician
Under the direction of a licensed clinician, facilitates the placement and/or clarification of external orders, including but not limited to, laboratory, imaging, and home health
Timely documentation of all patient and external partner interactions into the EHR
Schedules patients appropriately, as needed
Reviews and manages RN telephone encounters, as appropriate, to ensure timely communication with patients
Obtains records from community partners, including but not limited to laboratory, imaging, and hospitals, to facilitate timely, appropriate, and safe follow up for patients
Under the direction of a licensed clinician, assists with ordering durable medical equipment (DME) for patients
Performs other duties as assigned

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING

 

 

  1. High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  2. Satisfactory completion of an accredited medical assistant program in California; CA Medical Assistant certification with a minimum of 2 years’ experience required.
  3. Must possess a current California Driver’s License
  4. Must certify and remain current in CPR.
  5. Strong verbal and written communication skills; Bilingual (English/Spanish) language required.
  6. Strong interpersonal and customer service skills required.
  7. Computer skills; Microsoft Office Suite, strong data entry skills; electronic health record system preferred.
  8. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and attention to detail required.
  9. Experience working with patients and collaborating with multiple staff members to ensure optimal patient care.
  10. Experience in a community healthcare center preferred.
